Blepharoplasty is a restorative eyelid procedure that enhances the eye area and visibly diminishes signs of ageing. With age, the eyelids begin to stretch, and the supporting muscles start to weaken. Therefore, a surplus of skin and fat accumulates above and below the eyelids, which may lead to under-eye bags, sagging upper lids, and droopy eyebrows.
Before the blepharoplasty procedure, Dr Botha will meet with you to discuss your concerns and personal cosmetic goals. Typically, she enquires about previous procedures, allergies, current medical conditions and supplements. After a detailed physical examination and review of your goals and preferences, she will discuss the best approach and help you prepare in advance.
You can rest assured you are in good hands, as the procedure is meant to enhance and revitalise the eyelid area. Dr Botha will discuss what to expect before the scheduled procedure, how to prepare and possible side effects.
WHY DO WE PERFORM A BLEPHAROPLASTY?
A blepharoplasty addresses various cosmetic concerns, including:
- Baggy upper eyelids
- Excess upper eyelid skin that results in partial obstruction of peripheral vision
- Under-eye bags
- Excess lower lid skin
HOW DO WE PERFORM A BLEPHAROPLASTY?
On the upper eyelids, the surgeon creates an incision along the eyelid fold. She carefully removes excess muscle, skin, and fat, then seals the cut. On the lower lid, she creates an incision beneath the lashes, in the natural eye crease or within the lower lid, and then removes or redistributes excess muscle, fat, and droopy skin.
