NON-SURGICAL TREATMENTS (BOTOX, FILLERS & CHEMICAL PEELS)

Non-surgical treatments are non-invasive treatments performed to highlight your natural features. For example, there is a range of cosmetic, non-surgical procedures to choose from, all of which aim to enhance the appearance of the skin, minimise wrinkles and treat any visible signs of ageing.

TYPES OF NON-SURGICAL COSMETIC TREATMENTS

Botulinum Toxin (Botox®)

Botulinum Toxin (Botox®), a neurotoxin, can be administered in small, concentrated doses to soften and relax the facial muscles. The treatment is designed to target wrinkles in specific areas of the face, such as near the eyebrows, forehead, nose, and the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet), as well as around the lips, chin, jawline, and neck. It helps smooth the face and create a youthful, radiant appearance.

Fillers

Dermal fillers are non-surgical injectables intended to raise the skin and fill hollow areas. Normally, fillers are injected into specific areas such as around the mouth, nose and eyes. Fortunately, the results of dermal fillers are immediate and may last for months or longer. They are administered to restore facial volume and smooth facial creases and wrinkles.

As we age, our bodies naturally begin to lose collagen, a vital substance found in connective tissues, bones, muscles, and skin. With a limited amount of collagen in the skin, it begins to lose laxity and loosen, resulting in volume loss. Dermal fillers help combat these effects by restoring the skin’s volume, like a loaf of bread rising in an oven.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are solutions applied directly to the skin to extract its top layers. When the skin grows back, it appears much smoother and healthier than before. Chemical peels are administered to treat wrinkles, facial scars and skin discolouration.

There are different types of chemical peels, such as:

  • A light chemical peel extracts the outermost layer of the skin (the epidermis).
  • A medium chemical peel removes skin cells from the epidermis and the top part of the middle layer of skin (dermis).
  • A deep chemical peel focuses on removing deeper layers of the skin.

FAQ

1. How do I know which chemical peel is right for me?

A scheduled consultation can help determine the appropriate chemical peel for your skin. Dr Botha evaluates your skin and determines the type most suitable for you.

2. Are fillers safe?

Fillers, when administered by a doctor, are considered safe. Avoid black-market, do-it-yourself fillers, as they are considered dangerous.

3. Are there side effects from Botox®?

There may be redness, bruising, swelling and pain near the injection site. However, these are temporary side effects.
